Wasp

  The Wasp Spider is named for its colour pattern and has been spreading northwards for several years. This is a female at Astral Lake on 27 July 2022. Males are smaller and less conspicuous.





Herring Gull
  This Gull dropped in for a sandwich on the lawn (leftovers from Saturday's party), Alwins Field, 25 July 2022. Opinions differ as to whether it is a second-summer Lesser Black-backed Gull or a Herring Gull, or perhaps it is a hybrid.

Robin

It looks like this youngster hasn't perfected the technique of getting food inside the beak and has two insects on top.

Parasitic wasp - Gasteruption jaculator
  A parasitic wasp (probably Gasteruption jaculator) inspecting the bee hotel on Alwins Field allotments, 17 July 2022. The long ovipositor allows it to lay its eggs inside the bee's nest cavity.

This one has been attacked by birds, with large beak-shaped gouges out of its rear wings.

Here can be seen the rings on the underwing that give it its name.





White-legged Damselfly and small fly
  White-legged Damselfly in King's Wood, Heath and Reach, 5 July 2022. It is so-called because of the apparently thick, white legs.
Below it in the photo is a very small fly with a long name - Poecilobothrus nobilitatus.
