A Springtail (Dicyrtomina saundersii) in a water trough on the Alwins Field allotments. This is not its natural habitat, it was probably blown there by the wind, but seemed quite happy. Springtails are very tiny creatures - this one was about 1.5 mm long; they recycle dead leaves, etc. No-one is sure whether they are insects, crustaceans or something else. |
