Small tortoiseshell caterpillars
About a hundred small tortoiseshell caterpillars were on the nettles surrounding a dog poo bin in Linslade Woods, 24 July 2017.
The black blobs are "frass" (caterpillar poo).





Thick-headed fly
Because of their wide heads, these creatures are called "thick-headed flies", or Conopids. This one has four bands on the abdomen and is Conops quadrifasciatus; it was in Linslade Woods on 24 July 2017.
