  Black-headed gulls only have a dark spot on their heads during the winter.  This one was flying over the River Ouzel at Linslade on 22 December 2016.

Green woodpecker female
  A female green woodpecker in our garden.  The muddy beak is because she pokes it into the ground to lick up ants with her tremendously long tongue.  Alwins Field, 21 December 2016.

   Nuthatches cling on to trees at unusual angles.  This one was searching for grubs in a rotting tree trunk near the River Ouzel at Corbetts Hill on 11 December 2016.
